Getting there

GETTING TO AVIGNON:

Coming from London:

We recommend flying into Marseille Provence (MRS) airport or taking the train to Avignon!

Coming from the Mid-West, New York or California:

We recommend flying direct to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) or Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) and then follow our train guides below.

If possible, we'd recommend spending a night in Paris or Nice on the way in to break up the travel.

All guests: We recommend downloading "Trainline" in your phone's app store. It's a free app where you can view all direct trains schedules into Avignon and purchase tickets. All trains accept mobile tickets.

TRAVEL & TRANSPORTATION:

The high speed trains (Station name: Avignon TGV) are only a 10 min drive to central Avignon. (Ubers and taxis are easy to get and accept credit cards)

By Plane:
There are three airports you could fly into:

Paris

Catch the high speed train (the "TGV") directly from Charles de Gaulle airport to Avignon. Multiple trains depart per day and depending on which train you take, the trip will take between 2.5 and 3.5 hours. For more information on the train to Avignon, see "Trains." (~€18-€46 one way)

Marseille

A one hour drive from Avignon. Marseille is the closest major airport. A bus directly outside of the arrivals terminal will take you 3 stops to the train station (5 mins) where you can catch a direct train to Avignon (1 hour). (~€19.50 one way)

Nice

A 2.5 hour drive or 3 hour direct train from Avignon, the Nice airport is a great option if you're considering taking on a few days on the French Riviera (Ryan and Darci's first trip together!) before or after the wedding (€40-60 one way)

Train: Taking the Train from Paris to Avignon the TGV (high speed train) is the best way to get from Paris to Provence and back. It's extremely convenient, you can get on the train directly from Charles de Gaulle airport and get off at the Avignon train station, which is a 10 minute cab to Avignon center (and is home to many car rental agencies).

Depending on which train you take, the journey lasts anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on the number of stops. Tickets should be purchased in advance as the price rise significantly the closer you get to the departure date.

You shouldn't book a train that leaves less than an hour and a half after your flight lands.

By Car: We don't feel you'll need a car unless you want extra flexibility or to see nearby sites and wineries.

There are many rental agencies located directly outside of the TGV train station. If you're flying into Marseille or Nice, you can rent a car at the airport. In France they drive on the same side of the road as Americans.
